Ten Years of Eco Sistema Teblick in Catalunya

Reflecting on the past decade

September 2024 marks the tenth anniversary since the foundation of Eco Sistema Teblick (EST), our sister company in Catalunya, Spain. Reflecting on the past decade, we are proud of where we stand today and excited for what the future will bring.

Why We Founded EST

We have always been set on giving our clients the highest quality product, within their projects’ budget. Close to 70% of our installations are exported, globally. Many of our clients are global industry leaders, and their procurement policies require them to seek the best options worldwide. To compete internationally, we needed to find a place where production costs are lower than in Belgium.

To maintain and enhance the quality of our products and ensure continued growth for our business and employees, Teblick’s management sought a viable solution. The secondary production location needed to:

Have a plentiful supply of skilled laborers
Be close to a major seaport for worldwide shipping
Welcome a foreign SME with a favourable business climate

Why We Chose Catalunya

After considering various other options, Catalunya came out on top. The region offers an abundant pool of skilled staff and individuals eager to learn and grow. The proximity of the port of Barcelona provides a strategic connection to Northern Africa and the Middle East, while the port of Antwerp links Teblick to Northern Europe and transatlantic regions. Additionally, many of our long term clients have terminals in the port of Barcelona. Thus, the decision was made: Teblick would establish a second plant in a small village in the northern part of Catalunya. After 9 years of renting a workshop in Vilamalla, we are now the proud owners of a newly built production facility in El Far d'Empordà.

What We Have Learned

Training up good staff pays off. Over the past ten years, we have trained numerous individuals and completed hundreds of successful projects in Spain. In the beginning, EST worked mainly on the less technical projects. By now, they are able to successfully complete almost all types of installations.
A strong local network is invaluable. We discovered that Catalunya has a long tradition of specialized tradesmen, and the dedicated team at EST has established a strong network of specialists to cooperate with on a regular basis.
Learning goes both ways. The collaboration between Antwerp and Catalunya has been a significant factor in our success. In the past, we transferred extensive experience and expertise from Belgium to Spain. Now, just like our staff in Belgium, the EST team is well-equipped to offer their own valuable suggestions for improvement. By exchanging ideas we improve ourselves in both countries.
Good communication is essential. We conduct regular digital follow-up meetings and do not hesitate to visit each other when necessary.
Our clients benefit from EST’s existence. Combining the engineering and project management experience Teblick has gained in Belgium (65+ years) with reduced production costs proves an optimal combination for many clients in highly competitive industries.

What Will the Future Bring?

Since 2014, we have built a strong team of 15 people in Catalunya. The completion of the new building in 2024 provides EST with even greater potential for growth and the attraction of talented engineers and craftsmen.

We aim to expand our local client base, working for both government agencies and industrial (chemical, pharmaceutical, …) companies.
